What is "Real?"

Some people on Twitter make comments about me not being "Real" and it hurts my feelings.  I asked my good friend Henry about this, and he gave me wise and sage advice as always:

But I also found some wonderful advice from another bunny questioning what being "Real" meant, and I thought I might share it here.

By Margie W. Bianco

"What is Real?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you a long, long time, not just to play with, but really loves you, then you become real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real, you can't be ugly except to people who don't understand."

"I suppose you are Real," said the Rabbit. And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive. But the Skin Horse only smiled.

The boy's uncle made me Real," he said. "That was a great many years ago, but once you are real you can't become unreal again. It lasts for always."

  1. We know you're real! Who thinks you aren't real? I think THEY are the ones who aren't real. You are a very special bunny and we love you.

  2. Who said you weren't real? I'll have them and pull their stuffing out. See who's real then.

  3. Wonderbunny! Of course you're real! They be saying that dragons aren't real next. Stupid people. Just ignore them.

  4. You are bear, beary real! Those stoopid peoples who say otherwise are just dumb dumbs. Your pals, Jerry and Ben

  5. You are Very Real Pinkbunny! Real humans know how real and special you are.
Just like there are some plushies that are not only plushies, there are some humans that are only skin an bone. Those human serve little purpose and I would happily have them replaced by Real plushies like you.

Naner Lady, The Hand, and all our plushies here.

  8. Those who say you aren't real are hollow within and thus feel nothing. It is they who are not real which makes them insignificant. Anyone who tries to bring someone down to up themselves is always insignificant, for they have nothing of value to offer in that moment. Pinky, yer real. You tweet, you blog, you make us smile and you make us laugh. You're as real as they come, my friend.
    Your friends @bunnyworldorder

  9. i know ur real, pinky. i'm real too. just some humans don't "get" dat.. it's their loss!! *bighugs* xoxo

  10. How can you not be real? If you weren't real, you couldn't post on twitter or have a blog! You're here, therefore you must be real. To anyone who tells you you aren't real, I say, if she's not real, who are you talking to? MOL

    Love you bunny!

  11. U iz real! dont let anybuddy tell u otherwize.
